Online Hearing Test
Start quiet. Keep volume low; loud tones or noise can harm hearing or speakers. Not a medical device.
Use headphones, a quiet room and a fixed, low volume.
This is a rough self-check of which tones you can hear on your device, not a medical hearing test.
Quick hearing frequency check
This online hearing test plays short tones from 125 Hz to 16,000 Hz. Press Play tone, then answer whether you heard it; the next tone plays automatically. Test both ears together or each ear separately with headphones.

How to get reliable results
- Use headphones in a quiet room.
- Set your device volume to a comfortable level using the 1,000 Hz tone, then do not change it.
- Answer honestly; if unsure, replay the tone.
What the results mean
Most young adults hear up to 16–18 kHz; the upper limit typically drops with age. Results depend heavily on your headphones and volume, so this is only a rough self-check. It cannot diagnose hearing loss; see an audiologist for a proper hearing test.

Hearing and speaker safety
Start with the volume low and raise it slowly. Tones are more tiring than music because all the energy sits at one frequency. Very low tones (below about 40 Hz) can push small speakers and laptop drivers past their limits, and very high tones (above about 15 kHz) can be loud even when you can barely hear them. Take breaks, never test at a level that is uncomfortable, and stop if you notice ringing, pain or rattling.
This site is a sound tool for testing, tuning and experimenting. It is not a medical device and does not diagnose, treat or prevent any condition. If you are worried about your hearing or tinnitus, talk to an audiologist or doctor.
Online Hearing Test FAQ
Is this a real hearing test?
No. It is an informal self-check of which tones you can hear on your current device. Only a calibrated test by a professional can assess hearing.
Why can't I hear 16 kHz?
The upper limit of hearing falls naturally with age, and many headphones roll off at high frequencies.
Are my results saved?
